Clubs Support Literacy from Baby's Day One

Rotary Club of Marietta President-Elect Mary Ansley Southerland organized a literacy bag packing event in her office recently for this year's huge, infant literacy project. Funded in part by a district grant, this literacy program is embraced by Wellstar Kennestone Hospital and the Rotary Clubs of Marietta, Smyrna and Atlanta-Brazil. It will provide a literacy bag to every family with a baby born at Wellstar Kennestone Hospital this year. Mary Wood of the Cobb County Library System joined Rotarians Mary Ansley, Marlys Williams, Julie O’Meara and Dale Covington to pack nearly 100 emblazoned literacy bags with the board book First 100 Words, information sheets about WellStar, Rotary, parenting, good health advice, a library card application and lists of recommended readings for young children. Teresa Jones has also been helping pack literacy bags.
