March in Roswell: Ear Buds, Athletes and Governor Kemp

Roswell Rotary Club was busy in March: Service Projects and the Governor! Our AfterHours Club cleaned and sanitized hundreds of earbuds repurposed from the Rotary International Conference in Australia that historically end up in the trash. The brainchild of DGE Gordon Owens who brought bags of them back, they will now be gifted to students who need them through local school systems when a learning device is issued.

We also hosted our 27th Roswell Relays Track & Field meet through Roswell High School with 25 teams participating. This is the oldest and largest continuously running track meet in the state of Georgia, with over 1000 athletes competing, 1,200 tickets sold and another 100 volunteers, Roswell Rotary again offered an award-winning coach's hospitality suite, and more than 50 Rotarians worked the field and running events, the parking lot and press box. Twelve records were broken for the state-level competition!

All that said, the highlight of March has to be that we hosted Governer Brian Kemp and First Lady Marty Kemp for our March 14th lunch meeting. We had a standing room only crowd of 250+ attendees for the presentation of the End Human Trafficking Now award to Roswell Detective Natalie Fields for her diligent work to identify and, ultimately arrest nine Roswell massage parlors owners who were found to be operating without correct licenses. One owner was cited for running a human trafficking ring. Additionally, First Lady Marty Kemp was presented with an award distinguishing her for her courage to lead this Anti-Human Trafficking message into Georgia law. Gov Kemp highlighted not only the Anti-Human Trafficking efforts around the state but also the focus on public safety and other initiatives.
