Serving During the Pandemic
Americus Rotarians Serve at Vaccination Site

Just a call for help was all the Americus Rotary Club had to hear before alerting members of a new community need. This time, it was to volunteer at the local vaccination center which was moved from Phoebe Sumter Medical Center to the site of the National Guard Armory, a facility better suited to handle the growing population of residents seeking the COVID-19 vaccine. As the vaccination rollouts continued to expand, so did the demand for the vaccine, which placed a strain on the site which leaned heavily on volunteers to assist.

Past President Reda Rowell was one of the first Rotarians on site to help with greeting and directing individuals arriving at the facility and helping get them registered. Having experienced where the need was, she was quick to not only promote the vaccine each week at the Rotary meetings, but announced where the most need for volunteers existed. It wasn't long before others joined her, including Laura Bauer, a member inducted in July of 2020, and Jeni Stepanek, one of the newest Rotary members (inducted just recently on March 9). The Rotary Club of Americus is grateful for our members and their responses to the needs that arise in our community!
