In February, members of the Rotary Club of Lake Spivey/Clayton County and friends wait at the Atlanta International Airport to board their flight to India where they will join with members of the Rotary Club of Chennai for a mutual celebration of the two clubs participation in Rotary International for the past 60 years. Rotary International chartered both clubs in 1960. The group returned on Sunday, March 1.

Aner especially important part of their trip will be their participation in Rotary's 30-year campaign to eradicate polio. During their ten-day journey, these Rotarians and friends plan to assist in the distribution of polio vaccine to children as part of the Global Polio Eradication Initiative. This world-wide project is a public-private partnership led by national governments with five partners. Those partners are Rotary International, the World Health Organization, the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, and Gavi, the vaccine alliance. The goal is to eradicate polio worldwide. Since beginning the initiative 30 ago, new cases of polio world-wide have been reduced by 99.9 per cent.
