President Carter and Roslyn were on hand for the RC Americus presentation of nine Chromebook computers to the Boys & Girls Club of Albany

The Rotary Club of Americus made a special presentation of nine computers at the Carter Unit of the Boys & Girls Club of Albany in Plains, Georgia.

Club President Rene Smith shared with those attending that one of Rotary’s six areas of focus is Basic Education and Literacy, and that Rotarians believe supporting youth education is essential to reducing poverty, improving health, encouraging community and economic development and promoting peace.Local Rotarians make donations, raise funds and provide volunteer support of local and global efforts to make a difference in our world, and the youth services provided by the Carter Unit is aligned with these goals.

Ana Baggiano, Regional Director of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Albany and a local Rotarian, requested funding for Chromebooks on behalf of the Carter Unit. Through a successful grant application, the local Rotary Club obtained funding from the Rotary Foundation to assist in the purchase of nine computers. These computers will help both Rotary and the Boys & Girls Club achieve their goal of enabling young people to reach their full potential as productive, caring and responsible citizens. More computers in the Bpys & Girls Club means that the members will:

• have increased access to technology and the internet.
• increase their digital literacy and help them compete as they enter the work force.
• have access to literacy and math programs they can use at school.
• be able to conduct research for projects and write papers while at the club.
• take practice tests for the Georgia Milestones Assessment.
• engage in Boys & Girls Clubs of America online programming which includes writing computer code, learning online safety, creating computer presentations, and more.

Members of the Rotary Club of Americus and Rotary District 6900 Assistant Governor Dr. Brenda Hodges-Tiller were on-hand to make the presentation and expressed thanks to President and Mrs. Carter for supporting the establishment of the Carter Unit in Plains and their ongoing commitments to help others.The Rotary Club of Americus includes65 leaders from the local community and is celebrating its 101^st year of doing good in the world.
