Fred had the privilege of chartering two clubs: Vinings, on November 30, 1989, sponsored by Smyrna/ Cumberland, and Thomaston/ Upson County, on April 30, 1990, sponsored by Griffin Rotary Club.

Hue Thomas, longtime chairman of the GRSP, became Chairman Emeritus and the Hue Thomas Fellowship Award was established.

Fred established Drug Abuse Education and Literacy Action as priority projects for the year.

Rotary Youth Leadership Award (RYLA) were introduced into the district for the first time.

The district was saddened by the passing of two stalwart PDG’s- Maynard Ashworth of Columbus, 39-40, and Steve Andre, of Carrollton, 82-83.

Emergency Relief Aid was collected throughout the district and sent to Charleston, S.C. in the wake of Hurricane Hugo.

1,050 persons attended the District Conference.
