In 1918 the Rotary movement had begun to spread encouragingly to our overseas Latin neighbors, and when John H. Gay of Jacksonville, Florida, became District Governor for 1918-19 he found that Cuba and Puerto Rico had been added to Alabama, Florida and Georgia, and that numerically the District had been changed from District Five to the 8th District.

It was during 1918 that Albany shared Rotary with its good neighbors, Americus, by sponsoring that club.
