Connecting NOW to Make a Difference

By Jim Squire

The month of August was amazing for Donna and me as we visited 14 clubs and met so many amazing Rotarians across the District. I had planned to share several stories from my visits, but as I sat Labor Day thinking about my family in Savannah, and the impending Hurricane Dorian, I was concerned about all the help that will be needed in our coastal GA Rotary District 6920 to recover from the damage.

I was reflecting that, as in the past, we would reach out to District 6900 Rotarians for contributions to our 501(c)(3) Rotary District 6900 Charitable Fund Inc. once the extent of the damage has been assessed. There are a variety of ways to do that; you can read all about it in a separate newsletter story on disaster relief efforts. It occurred to me that our members we can all add to the Charitable Fund on an ongoing basis every time we make a purchase at Amazon. [more]

Class of 2018-19 Alumni Share What GRSP Means to Them

By Lynn Clarke

Learn more about what GRSP means to our alumni from Gabriel Deller de Aguiar from Brazil and Alara Su Bilgez from Turkey.

"My experience in the United States through GRSP has been incredible. I attended the University of Georgia, a large and diverse university where I made friends from other countries and have the experience of living with an American student which increases my immersion in the culture." … Gabriel Deller de Aguiar, Brazil - attended University of Georgia - sponsored by the Griffin Rotary Club

"My year as a GRSP student was more than what I expected even though I didn't know what to expect. I loved my school, the classes I took, my host family, other GRSP students, and everyone I met from Rotary. Every week, at the Roswell Rotary meetings, I got the chance to listen to some inspiring speakers and talk to other Rotarians. Everyone was very nice and helpful. My school schedule was not as busy as it was back in my country but I took the courses that I was interested in. Even though I knew that those credits won't count in my country, I tried to maintain a good GPA and had an academic year as I wanted." … Alara Su Bilgez, Turkey- attended Kennesaw State University - hosted by the Roswell Rotary Club [more]
