Club Assembly this Friday
We have cancelled our planned speaker (Laws of Life students) and instead will have a Club Assembly to discuss Club Fund Raising. I am encouraging all Club members to attend this session. It will directly impact FY 2019, and possibly the years beyond that.
The Board will be deciding what fund raisers the Club will undertake for FY 2019 during its next meeting on Tuesday (April 17th). The Board wants a sense from the Club membership as to what fund raising activities should be undertaken by the Club in FY 2019.
The choices at this point are as follows:
1.Have just the 2019 Governors Ball as the sole fund raising activity
a.expected to raise ~$50k (given the results of the immediate past 2 years)
b.Use FY 2019 to develop an additional fund raiser for FY2020
2.Add a Community BBQ event in FY 2019
a.vetted during FY 2018
b.expected to add $30k + to total fund raising in FY 2019
President Rick Otness will lead off by give some history of the research done during FY 2018 into alternative choices for fund raising. Bill Woulfin will discuss fund raising. Randall Bowman (current President of KCBS) will answer questions about putting on a Community BBQ. At the conclusion of the discussion, the members that are present at the meeting will be polled to determine the Club's enthusiasm for undertaking a Community BBQ in FY 2019.

FUNDRAISING TIPS
You may be able to pay for your project entirely through fundraising events, such as charity dinners, walkathons, or online auctions. These events will not only help you raise money for your project, but also awareness for Rotary and The Rotary Foundation. Some possible fundraiser events are:
- Hold a raffle
- Skip a meal at your club meeting and donate the cost
- Organize a walkathon, bike-a-thon, or skate-a-thon
- Honor a special person in your life with a memorial or tribute gift
- Collect pennies to end polio
- Organize a purple pinkie project to end polio
CREATIN A FUNDRAISING PLAN
Before hosting a fundraiser, you should create a plan that:
- Identifies your fundraising needs
- Establishes a budget
- Considers and addresses local laws for fundraisers
- Determines available resources in your community
- Outlines the event's logistics (such as selecting the location, ordering supplies, and arranging for set up and tear down)
- Describes how volunteers will be organized
- Considers how to publicize the event
- Provides ways to measure its success
WHAT ARE OTHER WAYS TO FUND MY PROJECT?
In other cases, you’ll need to turn to outside sources to fund your project, such as those listed below.
- Individual donors
- Businesses
- Foundations (including The Rotary Foundation)
- Nonprofit or nongovernmental organizations
- Government agencies
- Other Rotary clubs
Service Oscars.
Voting is now open! Go to rotary6900.org and click on the green Vote For Project Favorites button. You will be impressed by the nominees. Remember, you won't be able to vote for a particular category/flight combination if your club has a nominated project in that category/flight. But you should vote for all the others. Please motivate all your club members to individually vote for their favorites. Balloting will be closed on Friday, April 20th.

What do I need to considerate for a project?
When planning your projects, choose a community need that falls within Rotary’s service priorities:
• Areas of focus:
– Peace and conflict prevention/resolution
– Disease prevention and treatment
– Water and sanitation
– Maternal and child health
– Basic education and literacy
– Economic and community development
• Avenues of Service:
Club Service, Vocational Service, Community Service, International Service, Youth Service Strengthen your projects by collaborating with members who have expertise in a particular area of service, other Rotary clubs, other organizations, and the community being served.
Find partners by:
• Contacting your district Rotary Foundation committee chair or district programs committee chair
• Networking with other Rotary members at district and international meetings
• Browsing or posting on Rotary Ideas and Rotary Showcase
• Expanding your international connections through fellowship visits with other clubs and through Rotary Friendship Exchange
• Connecting with fellow Rotarians on social networking sites
• Exploring the Lifecycle of a Project section of Rotary.org
