This Week's Meeting is Thirsty Thursday
April 16 Virtual Thursday Thursday ... Our Opportunity to Check In Live!

From President Cathie's garden ...

Join us for this week's social gathering tomorrow night - Thursday, April 16 between 5:30 pm and 7:00 pm.

This week, we plan to give you an extra hour to sleep on Friday morning. We'll keep you posted on plans for future Fridays on a week-by-week basis.

We'll use Thirsty Thursday and the bulletin (and maybe a special email or two) to keep you posted on what we're doing - or have the opportunity to do - to serve during this time of sheltering at home. Be sure you keep reading here about the work Philip Cohn is doing.

All you need to join the Thursday fun is your computer, a camera (many are built right into the computer) and your microphone. Just go straight to https://zoom.us/j/700537258 to join the fun! Or, if you have the Zoom app on your phone or computer already, you can click Join Meeting Now and type in the meeting ID - 700 537 258. And, just a reminder - no beverage service or snacks, so bring your own and join us.

Editor's Note: Photo is courtesy of President Cathie, who spends her "extra" minutes of the day in her garden.

Serving During the Pandemic
Bob O'Brien Helps Our Club File for Farmers Insurance Grant

When Farmers® Insurance announced that it had set aside $250,000 to support 501(c)(3) nonprofits that are helping directly respond to current community needs, Bob O'Brien was quick to offer that he would nominate The Rotary Club of Dunwoody for one of the $1,500 grants. Louise Barden worked with Bob to put together our grant application. If we are successful, the $1,500 will help to support feeding local children through Malachi's Storehouse and printing 3D face masks for underserved local hospitals that are short on personal protective equipment (PPEs).

Thanks to Bob for helping RCD serve the community during this pandemic.

Serving During the Pandemic
Philip Cohn - Making Masks, Planning Blood Drive, Collecting Food

A State Farm employee trying out the mask Philip designed

Philip Cohn has been busy during our "shelter at home." In addition to running his State Farm office and arranging for his team to work from home, Philip has designed (with the help of a friend who is a doctor) and started production of face masks using a 3D printer. Each mask takes about three hours to print. As of this Monday, Philip had printed and delivered about 50 3D masks and he hopes to create another 300 or so before Georgia hits its peak in the coronovirus pandemic.

In addition to printing masks, Philip is planning a blood drive some time in June and may need some volunteers, especially a nurse to take temperatures.

And, he's collecting food outside his State Farm office - located at 2090 Dunwoody Club Drive, Suite 117, Sandy Springs, GA 30350 - and delivering it to a Sandy Springs food bank for distribution.

Your Board of Directors is looking at ways to help Philip fund these initiatives. If you'd like to know how you can help, you can contact Philip at 404.277.9795.

Thanks Philip on behalf of all of us for all you are doing!!!

News About Families
Coronavirus Updates

We were sad to learn last weekend that former members Don and Marj Griffing lost Marj's mom Jean. Jean visited with members of our club several times during Don and Marj's time in Dunwoody. For anyone who would like to send a card, Don and Marj live at 2140 Roselawn Lane, Osh Kosh, Wisconsin 54904-7156. Dottie is sending one from the club.

On a more positive note, Jessie Legros reports that her father is home recovering from pneumonia caused by the coronavirus.
